The vast majority of the population are religious, which means they partake in one form of prayer or the other. So, the act of praying is a well known spiritual and religious practice.
Although the majority of the human race engage in one form of prayer, the majority of their prayers are never “answered” even though all prayers are always answered.
Praying works according to some spiritual rules. These rules are never broken for anybody and ignorance of these spiritual rules will only result in “unanswered prayer.”
These rules or laws of prayer are rigid and because of this, until you obey them, you haven’t prayed as far as the Universe is concern.
The Universe/God answers all prayers. It doesn’t matter if you’re righteous or a notorious sinner. “He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.“ Matthew 5:45 NIV.
This article aims to teach you how to pray effectively instead of merely repeating words, the mere repetitions of words or statements is not prayer. Christ made this clear when he said: “When you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.“ – Matthew 6:7 AKJV.
For the sake of simplicity, I have broken down the rules/laws/principles of effective prayer into the following seven steps:
Step 1: Know Exactly What You Want
This one might look obvious to you but you will be surprised to know that mankind has a bigger problem of knowing what they want than actually achieving it.
The fact is most people don’t know exactly what they want. Today they want a Mercedes Benz, tomorrow they want a Bentley. If you keep changing what you want, you will be praying for a very long time.
Fixing this problem is simple. Just take a blank sheet of paper and write down what is it that you want. You have to be as specific as possible. But before you do this, bear in mind that you can’t change it. You can pray for another thing or something better later in the future but once you write this desire down, you can’t change it.
Examples of clearly defined desires:
(1) A four-bedroom house in Rickmansworth, Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom. It should be in a clean and quiet neighbourhood with good neighbours.
(2) An Aston Martin DB11 AMR 2019 Reg.
You can see from the examples above, I didn’t just write a “house” or a “car.” I know exactly the type of house I want, the location of the house and the type of environment I want the house to be in. The same level of specification was given to the car.
So, the first step/rule of prayer is to have a clearly defined desire. This desire must be CLEAR-CUT, STEADY, DEFINITE, SPECIFIC and FIXED.
Now that you have clearly defined your wish, let’s move on to the next step.
Step 2: Controlled Imagination
Repetition of the same words, talking or shouting endlessly is not prayer. These things are what Christ called: “vain repetitions“. You can spend all your life doing it but it won’t make anything happen as far God is concerned.
Once you know what you want, the next step is to have a Controlled Imagination about that particular desire.
If you pray and throughout that prayer session, you haven’t at any time imagine the object of your desire, then you haven’t prayed. You have only exercised your mouth and vocabulary.
How To Do A Controlled Imagination About Your Wish
(1) Make sure your whole being is perfectly at rest and still. You must be at rest and still.
“Be still, and know that I am God” – Psalm 46:10 NIV.
“Stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.” – Job 37:14 KJV.
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:14 NIV.
You can do this easily by lying flat on your bed and doing a breathing exercise. You can also do it on a comfortable armchair or recliner chair.
(2) Conjure up/imagine the image of the object of your desire.
(3) Live It: Experience your desire as you would in real life were you to be in possession of it right now.
With these three steps, you have achieved “controlled imagination” of your wish. You might want to ask: “What about those people who are moving, shaking and shouting during prayers in various churches, and God still answered their prayers?“
Those people did not skip this step two of controlled imagination. For their prayers to be answered they MUST have at one time imagined the object of their desire. They might not have been aware of what they were doing at the time but no one can skip this step and get what he/she wants.
If you can’t imagine your desire, you can’t have it. And if you imagine your desire, you can have it.
Stillness of the body and a clear mind makes this step a whole lot easier and much more effective, which is what am advising you to do.
Step 3: Imagination and Faith
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. – Hebrews 11:6 KJV
In step two I explained how you can easily achieve a controlled imagination of your desire. Step two will be useless without faith.
Without faith, controlled imagination is just an exercise in daydreaming.
Hebrew 11:6 made it abundantly clear that: “without faith it is impossible to please Him/God/Universe.”
After imagining your desire, you must believe wholeheartedly that what you desire is already yours.
I know it might sound crazy to advise someone who has been suffering from a chronic illness that the good health he desires is already his or to say to someone who has always been poor: “the wealth you desire is already yours”.
But this is what faith is all about. Believing in the existence of something before you see it is faith and you must do this before you can actually claim to have prayed.
Once you have imagined the object of your desire, the next step is for you to completely believe that your desire which you have imagined is already yours. It is as simple as this.
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. – Matthew 11:24 NIV.
Step 4: Align Your Conscious and Subconscious Mind
Now we have come to a very interesting step in this topic of prayer. I call it interesting because this is where most people are at a loss as to why they have prayed and believed but they are not getting any answer.
The Conscious Mind: The Conscious Mind is what a person knows.
Your Conscious Mind is approximately 10% of your consciousness.
The Subconscious Mind: The Subconscious Mind is what a person is.
Your Subconscious Mind is approximately 90% of your consciousness.
In my last article, Guard Your Watchman, I talked about how you should guard your Conscious Mind (Watchman) against multiple subliminal messages that are trying to have access to your subconscious mind, which is the real you.
Although it might not look like it now but the fact is that the only person preventing you from having what you have been praying for is you. And when I say you, I mean your Conscious Mind.
Until your Conscious Mind and your Subconscious Mind are in agreement, you won’t receive what you are praying for.
Your Conscious Mind uses your sensory organs, these are called your objective senses. It relies on them to do everything. So, it will hardly ever disobey or disagree with the information your sensory organs are providing.
For you to pray effectively, you MUST deny what your objective senses are telling you.
For example, if you are poor, your bank account is probably empty or close to that. This is the information that your objective senses are relaying to your Conscious Mind. Effective prayer requires you to deny this information and instead believe that you are wealthy because the truth is that you’re wealthy.
Poverty is wealth asleep. – Neville Goddard.
Another way of saying this is that you must deny the evidence of your senses in order to receive what you desire.
Neville Goddard puts it this way: “Feel and accept that which your objective senses deny”. – Prayer: The Act of Believing.
When you feel and accept that which your objective senses deny, you have aligned your Conscious Mind with your Subconscious Mind. This is because, in your Subconscious Mind, all things are possible. You just need to align your Conscious Mind with this fact.
Step 5: Feeling is the Secret
21 And Isaac said unto Jacob, Come near, I pray thee, that I may feel thee, my son, whether thou be my very son Esau or not.
22 And Jacob went near unto Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, The voice is Jacob’s voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.
23 And he discerned him not, because his hands were hairy, as his brother Esau’s hands: so he blessed him.
– Genesis 27:21-23 KJV.
In the Bible passages above, you are Jacob and Isaac is the Universe. Pay attention to the fact that Isaac said: “Come near, I pray thee, that I may feel thee“ Genesis 27:21 KJV.
Just as Isaac was blind, so is the Universe. God/Universe/Great Spirit, works with our feeling. The Universe is constantly feeling us and whatever we are feeling, that’s what the Universe will manifest in our life.
If someone can hypnotise you to believe that you’re are a millionaire even though you might be broke, this assumption and feeling, even though it might be false to those around you will manifest in your life because immediately Isaac felt Jacob, he proceeded to bless him. Immediately the Universe feels you, it will proceed to manifest your feeling.
This why a feeling of wealth begets wealth and a feeling of poverty beget poverty, hence the rich keep getting richer and the poor keeps getting poorer.
The rich are always feeling rich, so, by the laws of this universe, they are getting richer and the reverse is the case for the poor.
Whatever you are feeling, that what you are in that moment. And any feeling you hold on to will eventually manifest in your life.
So, in step five, the advice is that: “You should ALWAYS assume the feeling of your wish fulfilled.”
Step 6: Focus on the End Result
Like I said earlier in this article, the only person preventing your prayers from being answered is you. One of the ways you do this is by focusing on the means instead of focusing on the end result.
If you want a car, don’t focus on the ways of earning enough money to buy that particular car. If you want a particular type of love partner stop focusing on the types of parties you need to attend to meet this type of love partner. Just focus on the end result.
Your Conscious Mind uses your objective senses and whenever you’re praying for anything, it automatically goes into objective reasoning and analyses. If you buy into this objective reasoning and analyses, you will be standing on your own way to answered prayers.
Get out of your own way.
Stop worrying about the “how” but instead focus on “feeling your wish fulfilled.” It is not your job to tell the Universe how to do its work. Your knowledge of reality and possibilities is vastly limited. So, why would you want to tell God, the Omniscience, Omnipotent and Omnipresence, how to go about making your wish a reality.
Step six is: “You must focus your energy and prayers on the end result and you can do this by imagining that you are living and experiencing your fulfilled wish.“
Step 7: Self-Talk is Prayer
Step seven is mostly a safety measure. Some people ignorantly assumed that safe talk is harmless.
So, when He (Apostle Paul) wrote: “Pray without ceasing“, he was simply saying your “self-talk must be in harmony with the prayers you’re praying inside the churches.” Apostle Paul knew that self-talk is one of the most potent forms of prayer and to use it against oneself is deadly.
But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
– Matthew 12:36 KJV.
The fact is that both thinking and talking are the same things from different angles. And self-talk is also idle talk to oneself and it is a form of prayer.
“To think is to speak low, to speak is to think aloud.”
It’s impossible to prevent yourself from self-talk, so, whenever you are talking to yourself know that: “That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.” So, speak words that will nourish your soul.
Step seven is: “Whenever you’re talking to yourself and the issue of your desire comes to mind, only talk about it as something that has already happened.”
For example, if you praying for a house and during your daily self-talks, the subject crosses your mind, say something in the line of: “I remember when I used to pray for a house, now I am living in a four-bedroom house of my own, and at a location I love.”
In summary, let your self-talks compliment the “feeling of your wish fulfilled demeanour.”
All prayers are answered. It is as simple as this. The Universe/God/Great Mind works with exactitude. There are no mistakes. The laws governing this reality are rigid and fixed, and ignorance of them is not a defence.
If you have “prayed” and you still haven’t received any answer, it’s most likely because you’re falling foul of one of these seven steps of prayer.
What I know with certainty is that every prayer that obeys these seven steps is ALWAYS answered.
Some people get all the other steps right and then fell foul of step seven. You must get all the seven steps right.
Follow the steps in this article and you will get whatever you desire.
