In the book of Ecclesiastes 8:14, King Solomon was talking about a personal observation of his. In his observation the wicked, who can be referred to in our modern day vocabulary as bad, evil, unpleasant, immoral, heartless and e.t.c seems to be rewarded by life and nature as if they are they are good ones while the just, who are the kind, caring, fair, moral, charitable and all-around wonderful people seem to be treated like the evil ones by life.
If you look around you, this seems to be common. The wicked are getting richer and more powerful while good and lovely people can’t seem to get a break from the relentless bad events that keep coming to their path. This no coincidence, there is a law at work this law is called the law of causation.
From observing these events one may conclude that there is no natural or Nature justice in this world. For if there is, how can evil people keep prospering while good people are dying and suffering from misfortune.
If you happen to be thinking the same, allow me to explain. Apostle Paul wrote in the book of Galatians 6 verse 7 “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.” For you to understand this properly you must first understand one very important thing and that is; God is The Law and since God is Law, it has rules. These rules are impartial.
Apostle Peter while speaking to the household of Cornelius commented on the impartiality of The Law in Acts 10:34 “In truth, I perceive that God shows no partiality.” -NKJV. Apostle Paul reiterated this fact in Romans 2:11 “For there is no partiality with God.” – NKJV
So if you accept that God is The Law, these two verses can be presented as “In truth, I perceive that The Law shows no partiality.” And “For there is no partiality with The Law.” This then gives a better understanding of Galatians 6:7 “Do not be deceived, The Law is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.“
For a better understanding of this topic, I have divided this article into five main sections.
1 – Fate and Freewill
Some will laugh at the idea that there is a law of causation. Their argument usually centres around infants and children who unfortunately suffer from painful illnesses. Their argument is that these infants and children have never done anyone any bad. And they have a strong argument. But let’s consider things in more detail.
The unborn, infants and children of young ages are under the spiritual control of their parents. These group of people can’t think for themselves hence why they rely on their parents for guidance and leadership. Their parents teach them rights from wrong. Through their parent’s guidance and leadership, they gradually learn how to think, what to think and how to perceive things. This is the programming stage of these group of people.
From a spiritual point, these group of people can neither sow nor reap because they know neither right nor wrong. These are done for them by their parents or guardians.
We know two things for certain –
(1) We can sow with our thoughts not just through words and action.
(2) The Infinite Mind / The Law / God can seek justice for the evils committed by the parents through the child – For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me – Exodus 20:5 NKJV. And also reiterated again here – Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation. – Exodus 34:7 NKJV.
Knowing these, we can conclude that the suffering an infant or a child is subjected to is none of the child doing but an effect of either (1) wrongful thought by the child’s parent – wrongful thought could be anything from the parents being fearful that the child will suffer a particular illness to them wishing misfortune on other people’s kids or (2) The Infinite Mind visiting the iniquity of the parents upon the child. The iniquity of the parents could be things they have done through either bad thoughts, words or physical actions. All are equally potent. These are the likely causes of the painful effects the child is suffering.
This leads us to address this section of this article – Fate and Freewill. Considering what was discussed earlier in this section of this article, a man who is ignorant of this Law of Causation might console himself that whatever has happened to him through his baby is fate and he has no influence over it but this is a false assumption.
A man’s action is his Freewill and all his deeds must be repaid or balanced by the Infinite Mind/God/Law and this repayment is Fate. A man has control over his deeds, this is his Freewill but he has no control over how The Law/God chooses to repay him, this is Fate. So, any man can complain as much as he like that Fate has dealt him a bad hand but he and only him issued the mandate through the exercise of his Freewill. This is the Law of Causation in full effect.
2 – Your Present Reality
The Law of Causation is also the Law of Effect. Action and Reaction. Sow and Reap. The Law/Infinite Mind governs not just our world but it also governs billions of stars in the outer space. It governs the visible things and the invisible things. No one is above the Law. This was why Apostle Paul made a point to emphasize it in Galatians 6:7 “Do not be deceived, The Law is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.“
This then brings us to your current reality. Your current day reality is a net result of all your deeds. It is as simple as this. No matter how bad or good your life might be right now, it is simply a net result of all your deeds.
You might disagree with the statement in the previous paragraph. You might be suffering from one condition or the other and you have been a good person for the majority of your life. So you are asking how can my current situation be a net result of all my deeds? We sow and reap through our thoughts, words, and actions. Each of these is equally potent. The “bad” people who seem to be enjoying life all the time are not above the Law.
Firstly you have to remember that the person who is good today hasn’t always been good and the person who is bad today hasn’t always been bad.
Secondly, you have to understand that since we can sow through our thoughts, words, and physical actions, you can’t really know for certain why such and such person never seems to catch a break or why good things always come to that unpleasant individual. One thing I can guarantee you is that the Law is impartial.
For better understanding, let us look at how Thoughts, Words, and Actions are equally potent in working for or against us. For we can only exercise our freewill through these three mediums of thoughts, words and actions.
3 – Thoughts
But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. – Matthew 5:28.
Jesus Christ made it a point to point out that thoughts are things. In the book of Matthew 5:28 He reiterated the fact doing things in your thoughts is the same as you physically doing it as far as the Law is concerned.
If you know what goes on in people’s thoughts you might never say hello to them let alone shake their hands. A lot of lovely and nice people actually harbour evil thoughts towards others. These evil thoughts, although they are not seen by the normal human eyes, they are seen by the Infinite Mind/Law who repays everyone according to their deeds. As I stated earlier in this article, man has the Freewill to think whatever he wants to think but he has no power over how his thinking will be repaid, this is Fate.
For your own sake watch your thoughts for thoughts are things. We live in a thought world. Everything you see around you was once a thought including you reading this. You were once just a thought. So be very careful about what you think about yourself and other people.
If you project bad thoughts towards another person, in that instant you have sowed a bad seed which you will reap in due season. In that instant you have used your thought against yourself indirectly.
You can also used your thought against yourself directly by imagining diseases, failure, bad luck, disappointment, lost and e.t.c in your life. If you hold on to these thoughts long enough, they will manifest in your life. So watch your thoughts.
In the same way your thought can work against you, in the same manner it can work in your favour. You only need to think about the things you want in your life constantly and not before long, these things will start to manifest in your life.
Do not curse the king, even in your thought;
Do not curse the rich, even in your bedroom;
For a bird of the air may carry your voice,
And a bird in flight may tell the matter.
– Ecclesiastes 10:20.
4 – Words
Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
And those who love it will eat its fruit. – Proverbs 18:21
Words of your mouth are very potent weapon at your disposal which you can use whichever way you chooses. Words are so powerful that you use them to transform your life for the better. This is why affirmations are so powerful. After repeating affirmations so many times, those words start to grow in you. Your belief in those affirmations grows stronger with each repetition until what you are affirming manifest in the physical form.
The same way you can use words to transform your life for the better, the same way you can use them to destroy your life. Any bad words you spoke against someone will never go unpaid by the Infinite Mind. Even words you spoke carelessly against yourself find a way to manifest in your life. This is how potent the spoken word is. Look at your current situation, some of the things in your life right now, you joked about them years ago but what you did not know is that the Infinite Mind / Law has no sense of humour.
So be careful of what you say about yourself or other people. You have the Freewill to say whatever you want, so use this freedom wisely because misuse will be punished.
And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise. – Luke 6:31.
Now we’ve come to the point where no one can have a problem remembering. For when you talk about thoughts and words being a cause which yields effects according to the law of causation a lot of people argue that they can’t remember what they were thinking or what they said, but those same weak excuses cannot be used with physical actions because we all remember what we did or didn’t do unless the person is suffering from some sort of memory problem or they are constantly drunk.
The scriptures advice us repeatedly to be good to one and another because in doing so we sow good seeds that will grow and multiple which will result in us reaping good fruits. Jesus Christ simplified it for those who are struggling with the subject. He said, “just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.“. This way you have a model about what you should do at each given time. When you are about to do anything no matter what that may be; ask yourself “would I be happy if someone does this to me?” or “would I like it if someone does this to me?” If your answer is yes, then proceed because it’s probably likely that what you’re about to do or doing is right and if your answer is no, stop instantly.
Your freewill which you exercise through your thoughts or words might take longer to be repaid by the Law / God but this is not the case with your physical actions. Your actions are repaid quicker than your thoughts or words.
Job spoke about it in Job 34:11 – For He repays man according to his work, And makes man to find a reward according to his way. Apostle Paul re-emphasise it in Romans 2:6 that God the Infinite Mind / The Law “will render to each one according to his deeds”.
Man has the freewill to do whatever he wants but with his freewill he chooses his fate. Though he has the power to do whatever he likes – this is his freewill, he has no power over how he will be rewarded for his use of his freewill, this is fate. Every action a man performs causes an instant reaction in the Infinite Mind although it might take years for this reaction to manifest in our reality.
For every cause, there is an effect. Every action, a reaction. Every sowing, a reaping. This is the Law of Causation. This law of causation governs what we call Freewill and Fate. The mandate for every occurrence we refer to as fate was issued by an action exercised under freewill. So, this then draws the conclusion that man is master of his fate. For with his thoughts, words and physical actions he overseer over his own fate though he may know it not. Knowing this, if a man current reality is unpleasant, only he has the power to change it by changing his thoughts, words and physical actions.
