Love is the most powerful force in the whole universe. It is the love the seed has for life that makes it germinate and spring forth from the ground. It was love that made Christ die on the cross. It was love for justice for all human beings that made Martin Luther King Jr risks harm and death.
The power of love surpasses the understanding and knowledge of man. This love is not “like” or “lust”. True love is the steadfast desire to give and expect nothing back in return. This means loving those that hate you. This is giving your time and energy to causes without expecting to be rewarded for it.
We see the display of true love with the sun. Every day we witness sunrise and sunsets. This daily event is constant and what you have to remember is that the sun is a living thing, yet it has been steadfast in giving us heat and light without us humans giving it anything back in return.
Loving is giving without conditions attached but as I have said it in my other article titled “Unconditional Love Is A Myth“, it is humanly impossible for anyone to completely love unconditionally.
When I say that you should “love without conditions attached”, I mean you should love without expecting anything back. It means you should give without expecting even a simple “thank you”. It doesn’t mean you should put your life in danger. It doesn’t mean you expose yourself to defamation of character or any form of smearing.
Loving is giving. It is giving your time and energy to a cause, person or people because you believe it is the right thing to do and not because you want to be popular or accepted. It is the ability to put other peoples needs first before yours. Love is not just about giving, it is also about tolerating what we do not understand or accept as true.
True love demands that you understand the uniqueness of each individual person you come across. And when you understand that each individual person is different and unique, you will automatically position your mind to tolerate whatever they do that makes them different. After all, people cannot be unique if they ain’t different to others at some level.
There are no two copies of anyone and there is no one out there in the whole wide world that is exactly like you. There simply isn’t. The fact is that each and every one of us is unique in his or her own way.
Humans express their uniqueness through there religions, gender identity, creativity, associations and e.t.c. And this is great. The world will be one giant bore if everyone were the same. These differences call for understanding on your path and the understanding that these differences call for is that you learn to tolerate the differences in people.
In fact, don’t just tolerate the difference in everyone you come across, celebrate it but you can never reach the point of celebrating the differences in people until you have that “love that surpasses knowledge – Ephesians 3:19″. Because it is this love that can make you love, respect and tolerate something you don’t fully understand. This love drives away fear because fear comes from ignorance.
Love Drives Away Fear
Fear comes from lack of knowledge and understanding. People who hate others for their ethnicity, sexuality or religion do this mostly because of their ignorance.
When I say love drives away fear, what am saying is that love puts your mind in a state of trying to understand and learn. It is only when you truly understand a person can you see things from their point of view.
I have never seen anyone who truly understand the subject of race and ethnicity that is a racist. Not a single person. And I have never seen anyone who truly understands the subject of religion who still hate people because of their religion.
People stop hating immediately you expose them to knowledge about that which they hate.
Love and fear cannot exist at the same time. I cannot love and fear you simultaneously. But I can love and respect you at the same time. Like a said before, fear comes from ignorance and love comes of knowledge and understanding and it is knowledge and understanding that will get rid of the ignorance that is the real root of the fear.
And to know this love that surpasses knowledge – Ephesians 3:19 NIV. What “love” is this? The love that Apostle Paul was talking about in Ephesians 3:19 is the love that is at the very root of our existence. It is the love that makes it possible for the sun to shine on the good and the bad. It is the love that does not discriminate.
This is love giveth and asks for nothing back in return. It is the love that sacrifices for those that hate it. It is the love that more than anything else fully understand that all is one and that each and every one of us is connected in one way or the other because we are all products of the same MIND.
This love doesn’t care about your race, sexuality or religion because, in the eyes of this love, these things are irrelevant.
If you are doing anything and you expect something back in return for your labour but at the same time you claim to do it because you love it, then let me tell you now that, that is not love. This is “liking” something you do. Whatever you do for love, must be done without expecting anything back.
