Life is simple if you truly that you are either going forward or backwards. Knowing this, it becomes simple to understand that, there isn’t a static state to exist for anyone. In this reality, we don’t have the option of being stagnant. It is either that we are moving forward or going backwards. It’s either progression or regression. Stagnancy is a term some people give to backwardness or regression.
You can either be progressing or regressing in life. You can’t be stagnant. You might think you are stagnant but what you refer to as stagnancy is actually a regression.
One of the strangest things I have noticed about life is that we as humans automatically starts to regress once we do not have a goal to work towards. This lack of goals to aim for can actually account for why some people go from health to illness immediately they lose their jobs or retire.
Have you noticed how the health of people deteriorates immediately they retire from work or not working towards anything significant? This is a symptom of going backwards.
Regression can be prevented or “cured” by simply having a goal and working towards attaining it.
Goal Setting: The Cure For Regression
Regression in any area of life can both be prevented or cured by simply have a goal. A business that is struggling can easily fix its problems by simply setting a clearly defined goal and aligned all it resources to attain this clearly defined goal.
Whichever area of your life that’s currently in regression, you can fix and correct the situation by simply setting a clearly defined goal for that area of your life.
If for example, your love life is far from ideal, then you need to do two things: (1) State the current situation of your love life. Especially the part of it that you are struggling with the most. (2) Clearly define what you want your love life to be.
With these two simple steps stated in the previous paragraph, you have “arrested” the regression in that particular area of your life. But this is not the end. Having a clearly defined goal is great but without diligence on your part, then it will only be a “clearly defined goal” and nothing else, which will make you just a dreamer.
Behind your clearly defined goal must be the will and purpose to make it a reality. This leads us to the second subheading of this article which is Personal Action.
Having a clearly defined goal is great but at the same time, a goal is nothing without personal action on the part of the person who sets the goal.
Personal action is the diligence to turn goals into tangible things. Your desire to make $1,000,000 will not materialise without some personal action on your part. Neither will you meet that “love of your life” which you desire without you working on yourself to become the kind of person that can attract and keep that kind of person romantically.
A lot of people have goals but most are unwilling to pay the price for success. Success is demanding and jealous. You must give her all your attention and hardwork before you can get her. There is simply no other way around this.
Having a goal and the purpose to turn your goal into reality will align you with the energy of life and progression.
You can either be progressing or regressing in life as a whole but this is a micro view. The macro view is that this same principle applies to every area of your life.
You should take out a few blank sheets of paper and take stock of every area of your life. This means having a critical look at your love life, friendships, finance, health, family life, work life, career, educational, recreational and etc.
Take stock of every area of your life and whichever area of your life that you identify to be in regression should be addressed by setting a goal for what you want that area of your life to be and then start working towards attaining it.
