When it comes to implementing personal goals, the common mindset of most people is to execute their goals when the time is right. The fact is that for most people, there will never be “the right time.”
We all believe this idea that there is a right time to do everything and in most cases this is true but in a lot of situations, the right time might never arrive. You might never have the perfect time to start that project, write that book or go on that around the world trip.
We normally put our plans on hold primarily because the resources to accomplish the plan isn’t available now. The second most common reason is usually ongoing engagements and thirdly, I believe family responsibilities stop us from going after what we’ve always wanted to accomplish.
When you consider these three points, it becomes clear that there are too many voices to consider. When you consider too many voices in any situation, you are likely to put your needs last. This is the primary reason why most people never start a project they have always wanted to execute.
In the great words of Maya Angelou, “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.” You will never accomplish all you want to accomplish in this lifetime if you are constantly waiting for the time to be right. The time might never be right. The crazy thing is that on one hand the time will never be right and on the other hand, the time is always right.
So, how do you then go about accomplishing everything you want to accomplish even though it looks like you have lots of obstacles currently? Well, there is a simple answer to this complex question. In order to accomplish your everything you want to accomplish in life, you need to do two main things:
(1) List and prioritize your goals.
(2) Ask yourself, is this good for me and is it humanly possible to start now?
On the surface, it might look like everyone list their goals and then prioritize them according to their importance but this is not actually the case. Most people try to accomplish their goals by attempting two, three or even four of them all at the same time. When you try to do everything at once, you usually end up doing none of them. Grasp all, lose all.
Starting from today, you must list all your life goals and then number them according to their order of importance to you. After you have numbered them in their order of importance, you should write the number one goal in another blank sheet of paper and put the list containing the rest your goals somewhere safe.
Doing this simple task of listing your goals and prioritizing them will bring clarity and focus to a part of your life that have always seem chaotic. Now that you know which of your goals that is the most important, how do you then go about bringing it into reality? I will answer this question in the next subheading.
Ask Yourself Vital Questions
Earlier in this article, I said the number two thing that will make it easy for you to start accomplishing your goals is to ask yourself these simple questions: “Is this good for me and is it humanly possible to start now?”
Am sure you are one of those people who consider several factors before making any major decision. You have to think about your earnings, savings in the bank, impact on your health, impact on family members and friends and e.t.c. The bitter fact is that none of these really matter at the initial stage of decision making.
The number one question you should ask yourself is this: Is this good for me? If you can honestly answer yes to this simple question, you will automatically align yourself with everything that will make it possible for you to accomplish that goal.
Once you are certain that the goal you want to accomplish is good for you, you should then go a little bit further and ask yourself: Is it humanly possible for me to accomplish this goal?
You will be surprised to find out that if you can answer yes to these two questions, accomplishing any goal becomes easy because by answering yes to these two questions, you have automatically removed all the obstacles you unconsciously placed on your path.
You must make the conscious decision to only listen to your voice when it comes to accomplishing your goals. When you start considering what friends or family members will think or say, you might never accomplish any tangible goal in life.
This might sound selfish, but if you don’t adhere to this advice, it is you and only you that will suffer in silence. The worse part is that those whom you put into consideration when you decided not to go after what you want, will not even thank you for your selfless sacrifice.
Majority of the people you come across in life have goals. Some goals are bigger than others but most people have goals. The sad truth is that 90% of these people will never accomplish their goals because they never even tried.
The reason for them not even trying is usually based on external factors. Statements such as: What will my wife think of me if I start such a thing now? What will my family think about that? My friends will laugh at me or my mum/dad is unwell are too common excuses.
Am not saying you should abandon your family or your loved ones. All am saying is that you should learn to listen to your own voice only and put your needs first. All your life you’ve always put the needs of others before yours. Now is the time for you to put what you want first.
Put your needs first and start working on your goals right now with whatever you have. Don’t wait until you have all the resources before you start. If you start now you will be surprised to find out that the resources to complete your goals will mysteriously appear in your life.
